Description

Nason Construction, Inc. provided construction management services for the fit-out of Sunoco’s new corporate headquarters in the 54-story Mellon Bank Center at 1735 Market Street. The 221,000 square foot renovation of 10 floors in the pyramid-topped Mellon Bank Center houses Sunoco’s corporate staff of nearly 1,000. Totaling $18.2 million in construction costs, the project also included the renovation of several floors in the 40-story 1818 Market St. high rise for the oil refinery’s operations center.

Simultaneous renovations involved floors 10 through 16, floors 27 to 29, and a basement level in the Mellon Bank Center. The 27th and 28th floors house the legal department and executive suite, featuring high-end finishes with custom millwork throughout. The remaining floors are traditional office space with one floor dedicated to stock trading. All floors have top-of-the-line security systems and telecommunications hardware, including the basement level, which contains the shipping and receiving area for Sunoco.

Additionally, 20,000 square feet at 1818 Market St. was renovated – floors 14 and 15 as well as the concourse and sub-concourse levels. Construction crews successfully maneuvered materials throughout the two facilities, with little disturbance to the businesses that occupied floors above and below the construction zones.

With only six months to complete this extensive project, Nason Construction successfully renovated and fit-out 14 floors in two of Philadelphia’s tallest skyscrapers.
